This morning, I was sitting trying to decide what important piece of health knowledge I wanted to share with you all and I was not feeling it! I mean I felt like the kid who put off writing her paper until the last minute and sat staring at a blank screen, imagining all the ways to get out of it or postpone it rather than waiting to feel inspired about what would add value to y’alls lives. That’s when I began to chuckle a little and realize that one of the most difficult, yet important aspects of living a healthy lifestyle is....consistency.
The Nike ad “Just Do It” resonates with so many because, as adults, we have to do exactly that....even when we aren’t feeling it. We have to wake up every morning and recommit to our healthy food choices, exercise, positive thinking and spiritual practices each and every day. It’s no different than the conscience decisions we are making to love our spouse and children and to be the best version of ourselves each an every day. The common core is consistency. Life gets in the way for all of us and can throw us off course, but the best way to ensure that we prevent or at the very least lessen these instances is by using these four steps to create consistency: Four Steps to create consistency: 1. Set goals: these don’t have to be magical - just something that you are working towards. Whether, it’s a vacation your going on, a marathon that you want to run, or just 21 days of implementing good habits 2. Lay out a morning/evening and or mid-day routines to incorporate your healthy activities, food, prayer, meditation, supplements, and self-care 3. Schedule time in your calendar for your healthy habits. If your goal is to take 30 mins, 3 days a week to sit in an infrared sauna to decompress and detox, then schedule it in just like you would an important meeting. You deserve to make the time and doing this consistently actually creates the time in your schedule no different than taking the time to shower or brushing your teeth. 4. Reward yourself (in healthy ways) for sticking to your healthy lifestyle choices. I encourage you all to wake up and start each day with intentionality and push to be a better version of who you were yesterday by being consistent with the healthy lifestyle you have chosen to live. There are days all of us don’t feel it, myself included, but it’s those days that we are not feeling it and push through, that we prove to ourselves what a warrior we really are!
