When I started working in the health and wellness industry, I like many who work in the field, felt that I needed to be ahead of the game in all things wellness for myself. I needed to have the perfect diet, the best fitness program, top of the line supplements, practicing meditation and yoga, detoxing regularly, oil pulling, fascia blasting, sauna and red light therapy and making time to ground and feel at one with nature all while singing kumbaya. Ya’ll, it wasn’t long before I felt like my world was crashing down around me. It all seemed so necessary but how could I possibly keep up these routines and still have a life? The answer….I couldn’t!
I have come to understand now, that in all things in life, but especially our health and wellness routines, simple is just plain better. It’s about choosing a few things that are important to you and sticking with them for the long haul. These are things that should give you joy, add value to your life, and help you grow physically, mentally and spiritually. There are times that our bodies reach crisis mode due to stress, illness, overwork or just too many demands, and during these times is when our bodies then require additional love, time and TLC . But for the most part, if we are living a healthy lifestyle and just trying to maintain our health, we can simplify and focus on the four main things: food, water, sleep and love. It’s really that simple ya’ll! If you are wondering where to start with a healthy lifestyle or need to simplify your current routine, start here: 1. Focus on eating well balanced healthy meals containing a wide variety of organic fruits and vegetables and grass fed animal protein (for my non-vegetarians/vegans of course). 2. Drink half of your body weight in ounces of water daily for proper hydration. 3. Sleep 7-8 hours each night. 4. Focus on generating more love in your life through relationships, spirituality, hobbies, and honestly, whatever brings you joy and makes you want to jump out of bed every morning. I promise that if you focus on these four areas, anything else that you do, including exercise and supplements etc. will only make those four areas benefit you more. Instead of getting overwhelmed by all the things we could be doing to live a long, healthy life, let’s get back to the basics first and generate some simplicity in our daily routines!
