![]() Today I'm going to talk to you about one of my favorite things....COFFEE! Coffee tends to get a pretty bad wrap in the health and wellness world these days. Let me first just start by saying that coffee is not for everyone. There are some whom should stay away from caffeine such as those with sleep issues, low adrenal function, heart problems or high blood pressure etc. But for most of us living a healthy lifestyle, coffee is an added benefit into our regime. Some benefits of coffee include:
Coffee beans are one of the most heavily pesticide sprayed crops and the way we rid the beans of the pesticides is to pour hot water over them and then drink it ...Yuck! So do yourself a favor and go organic with your coffee. My favorite brand of coffee, though on the higher end price wise, is Bulletproof. It's beautifully smooth, robust in flavor and is free of molds and toxins. One of the other things we hear in the health world about coffee is that it is too acidic and makes our bodies ph too acidic therefore making us unhealthy and set up for disease. While coffee is acidic, so is protein and many other things in our diet. The first key here is moderation. No one should be drinking a pot of coffee a day. Depending on your body size and metabolism, 1-2 cups a day of caffeinated coffee is plenty.
I hope this has helped debunk the "coffee is bad for you" myth. As always, if you are unsure if it is a right choice for you, I encourage you to check with your doctor or Holistic Health Practioner first. I'm off now to go make myself a cup of coffee... With Love & Grace, Rachelle Cain, HHC

When I started working in the health and wellness industry, I like many who work in the field, felt that I needed to be ahead of the game in all things wellness for myself. I needed to have the perfect diet, the best fitness program, top of the line supplements, practicing meditation and yoga, detoxing regularly, oil pulling, fascia blasting, sauna and red light therapy and making time to ground and feel at one with nature all while singing kumbaya. Ya’ll, it wasn’t long before I felt like my world was crashing down around me. It all seemed so necessary but how could I possibly keep up these routines and still have a life? The answer….I couldn’t!
I have come to understand now, that in all things in life, but especially our health and wellness routines, simple is just plain better. It’s about choosing a few things that are important to you and sticking with them for the long haul. These are things that should give you joy, add value to your life, and help you grow physically, mentally and spiritually. There are times that our bodies reach crisis mode due to stress, illness, overwork or just too many demands, and during these times is when our bodies then require additional love, time and TLC . But for the most part, if we are living a healthy lifestyle and just trying to maintain our health, we can simplify and focus on the four main things: food, water, sleep and love. It’s really that simple ya’ll! If you are wondering where to start with a healthy lifestyle or need to simplify your current routine, start here: 1. Focus on eating well balanced healthy meals containing a wide variety of organic fruits and vegetables and grass fed animal protein (for my non-vegetarians/vegans of course). 2. Drink half of your body weight in ounces of water daily for proper hydration. 3. Sleep 7-8 hours each night. 4. Focus on generating more love in your life through relationships, spirituality, hobbies, and honestly, whatever brings you joy and makes you want to jump out of bed every morning. I promise that if you focus on these four areas, anything else that you do, including exercise and supplements etc. will only make those four areas benefit you more. Instead of getting overwhelmed by all the things we could be doing to live a long, healthy life, let’s get back to the basics first and generate some simplicity in our daily routines! With Love & Grace, Rachelle Cain, NBC-HWC This morning, I was sitting trying to decide what important piece of health knowledge I wanted to share with you all and I was not feeling it! I mean I felt like the kid who put off writing her paper until the last minute and sat staring at a blank screen, imagining all the ways to get out of it or postpone it rather than waiting to feel inspired about what would add value to y’alls lives. That’s when I began to chuckle a little and realize that one of the most difficult, yet important aspects of living a healthy lifestyle is....consistency.
The Nike ad “Just Do It” resonates with so many because, as adults, we have to do exactly that....even when we aren’t feeling it. We have to wake up every morning and recommit to our healthy food choices, exercise, positive thinking and spiritual practices each and every day. It’s no different than the conscience decisions we are making to love our spouse and children and to be the best version of ourselves each an every day. The common core is consistency. Life gets in the way for all of us and can throw us off course, but the best way to ensure that we prevent or at the very least lessen these instances is by using these four steps to create consistency: Four Steps to create consistency: 1. Set goals: these don’t have to be magical - just something that you are working towards. Whether, it’s a vacation your going on, a marathon that you want to run, or just 21 days of implementing good habits 2. Lay out a morning/evening and or mid-day routines to incorporate your healthy activities, food, prayer, meditation, supplements, and self-care 3. Schedule time in your calendar for your healthy habits. If your goal is to take 30 mins, 3 days a week to sit in an infrared sauna to decompress and detox, then schedule it in just like you would an important meeting. You deserve to make the time and doing this consistently actually creates the time in your schedule no different than taking the time to shower or brushing your teeth. 4. Reward yourself (in healthy ways) for sticking to your healthy lifestyle choices. I encourage you all to wake up and start each day with intentionality and push to be a better version of who you were yesterday by being consistent with the healthy lifestyle you have chosen to live. There are days all of us don’t feel it, myself included, but it’s those days that we are not feeling it and push through, that we prove to ourselves what a warrior we really are! With Love & Grace Rachelle Cain, HHC Twenty eight years and two cancers free, I was living my passion as a naturopathic doctor. I had the privilege of teaching and guiding others across the globe towards their own healing, when suddenly I found myself in the midst of a full blown adrenal crash. My body had once again failed me due to the stresses of life. I not only crumbled, I basically flat-lined for a grueling 11 months mentally, emotionally and physically.
Day after day, I wondered how on earth I would ever push through the exhaustion and heartache that I had experienced at that time in my life. My colleagues interjected that if I didn't rest and recover, my heart would give out. My entire being vibrated 24/7, it was a symptom of the crash that I had learned about in my work, but could have never realized the uneasy intensity until it became my symptom. There were many days that I had welcomed death, but would try with all of my might to survive. Back and forth in my taxed mind, I swayed between the two emotions, death or survival, which would I choose? I felt I was walking a constant tightrope with no net to catch me...until one day, the day that I decided to give up... which also became the day that I heard the most powerful voice whisper to me lovingly, "God Has You". Those three powerful words became my mantra that day; they became my saving grace, my hope and my belief. They carried me through until once again I was well, and they have resonated with me ever since. Every alarm I would set to get me to the next moment or the next task, through the next appointment or through the next work shift, and to the next day, I set my every alarm labeled "God Has You" every 15 minutes, then every 30, then 45...always recalling the voice that saved me on that crucial day of giving up or going forward in faith. It became my inspiration from that point on. In time, I told God that I would fly to Arizona and climb a mountain with my son, and if I made it to the top, I would come back down knowing that I was healed by Him. All the way up, I told myself "God Has You", "God Has You", "God Has You"...and He certainly did. Today, I am healed, I am whole and I am well. There has not been a day that has gone by that in all of my endeavors I know with all of my heart, "God Has You Kimberly Kaye Fogel". Life is good! Amen! |
