The lymph system is a system of organs that include the spleen, tonsils, and thymus along with lymph nodes, lymph fluid and lymph vessels. This system is one of our major cleansing systems in our body and having it functioning at peak performance is very important to our maintaining good health and healing capabilities.
The function of the lymph system is to drain waste products, toxins and other debris from the tissues to the elimination organs where they are then filtered out of the body. It also produces disease fighting white blood cells called lymphocytes and antibodies. The lymph nodes are special filters along with the lymph ducts that work in removing infective organisms.
In order to have a healthy lymph system we must also have a healthy liver since the liver is the organ that produces the majority of lymph fluid. This fluid is the major route for nutrients to pass from the liver and intestines.
The spleen is the largest mass of lymph tissue. It filters and destroys old worn out red blood cells that need replaced. Not to mention that it is a very important part of the immune systems functions. Those whom have had their spleen, thymus or tonsils removed tend to be more prone to illness due to the loss of these very important organ causing a weakened immune response.
Quite often when the lymph is stagnated the nodes will swell and become inflamed and tender. Lymph runs throughout the entire system but the areas that are most noticeable are the neck, along the sides, behind the ears and the back of the neck and head, over the thymus and chest-breast area, between the shoulder blades, armpits, midway between the sternum and navel in the abdomen area and the groin area.
In order to stimulate lymph flow we must depend solely on physical exercise and deep breathing, as there is no internal pump to keep it moving, flushing and filtering. The system relies on our own muscle movement and diaphragmatic breathing. Bouncing on a trampoline is an excellent exercise to keep the lymph flowing but if one is unable to do this type of exercise then there are other alternatives. Gua Sha treatments or lymphatic massages preformed by a natural healthcare practitioner is very effective and can help obtain results quite quickly. Colon and liver cleansing will aid greatly in the flow, hydrotherapy, dry brush massage, acupressure, dietary changes, herbal supplementation and drinking 1/2 your body weight in ounces of purified water daily.
Is your lymph stagnated or congested? Are you under chronic stress? Battle with chronic fatigue? Do you have quite pale skin? Extremely thin? Is your memory failing? Is your immune system sluggish? Have frequent colds, fevers, etc…? Is your body soft, pudgy or have puffiness in areas? Seem to be noticing new cellulite manifesting? Tender spots? Lumps or bumps appearing and disappearing at times?
If you identify with any of the above symptoms then you may be experiencing lymphatic sludge and you may be feeling awful because frankly, the garbage in your system is not moving and this can be very devastating to your health over time. The lymphatic system is such an integral part of our body although most are unaware of it or its functions. Many people find out what it is and what it does only after being diagnosed with either lymphoma or other forms of cancer after metastasizing to the lymph and on to other organs.
If you suspect that your lymph or other eliminatory organs are not working to their maximum potential then it would be wise for you to consult with your practitioner so that you may being your path to Discovering wellness.
